A History Worth Repeating – Songs and Stories from Lucius
Largo at the Coronet366 N La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles 90048
Lucius bring A History Worth Repeating: Songs and Stories from Lucius to Largo at the Coronet. The billed show is a narrative take on their catalog, built around songs and the stories attached to them rather than what the band call “your average Lucius show.” They describe the format as being like “sitting with us in our living room,” with diary entries linking the music and memories. It is a chance to hear the songs in a focused theater setting where the audience is asked to keep phones away and listen closely.
Lucius are known for the dual lead vocals of Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, with Peter Lalish also named as a member, and for a retro-leaning sound. Their debut Wildewoman established the group’s signature approach; NPR called it “perfect, magnetic pop music,” while The Guardian heard voices “powerful … melding beautifully in harmony.” Second Nature brought ’80s-pop touches, lush synths and disco grooves, earning “dazzling” from the Los Angeles Times and “a 10-song, smart-pop masterpiece” from Relix. Wolfe and Laessig have recorded and performed with artists including Joni Mitchell, The National, Harry Styles, Ringo Starr and Brandi Carlile.
Largo’s defining feature is a shared, no-distractions performance culture: phones and cameras stay out of the theater, and the audience is expected to keep quiet while artists perform. Mark Flanagan brought the longtime club into the Coronet Theatre in 2008, carrying forward a program where musicians and comedians share the bill. The main room is a historic playhouse with tiered theater seating, so you can settle in facing the stage rather than treating the show as background to drinks. Tickets are for specific performances, and buying ahead is the practical choice; check in well before showtime, since late arrivals are not admitted and tickets may be forfeited if you have not checked in 15 minutes before the start. There is a bar in the Little Room, but no full dining service; plan dinner separately.
