Plague Vendor returns to Alex’s Bar for a three-act bill with Skating Polly and The Chapel as special guests. The evening brings the billed headliner back to the Long Beach room, while Skating Polly arrive as the trio of Kelli Mayo, Peyton Bighorse and Kurtis Mayo. It is a 21+ show presented by Alex’s Bar, with all three names advertised for the night.

Skating Polly are an Oklahoma-bred band whose pop-punk and riot grrrl-rooted “ugly pop” has travelled from OKC venues to what KUTX calls “full-on Western hemisphere notoriety.” The Adelphi Club describes the music as “unruly and subversive and wildly melodic,” while KUTX hears catchy skater-punk-meets-indie-pop hooks and Kelli Mayo’s “sour-sweet, loose-jawed vocals.” Their collaborators include X’s Exene Cervenka and Beat Happening’s Calvin Johnson; Cervenka produced Lost Wonderfuls, and Veruca Salt’s Nina Gordon and Louise Post worked on New Trick. The band has toured with Babes In Toyland and X. Cervenka has called them “musical and artistic soul mates of the highest order.”

Alex’s Bar pairs its punk-rock identity with a striking, blood-red interior and velvet paintings of Elvis and Mexican wrestlers; it also appeared as Fangtasia in True Blood. The room is a Long Beach bar and live-music venue, with the stage set into a corner and a spacious floor for shows. Expect amplified bands alongside the bar’s regular social life, rather than a concert room focused solely on quiet listening. The venue’s FAQ describes its commitment to an inclusive, accessible environment, and its site lists food pop-ups on a calendar, so food availability depends on the event. Show details and ticket arrangements can vary; check the listing for the performance you have found. Alex’s Bar is still operating at its longstanding East Anaheim Street address in Long Beach.
