Lyle Workman
Alvas Showroom1417 W 8th St, Los Angeles 90732
Lyle Workman brings an original instrumental jazz-rock quartet to Alvas Showroom, with Workman on guitar, Matt Rohde on keyboards, Derek Frank on bass, and Joe Travers on drums. Expect a band set built around Workman’s compositions, with the lineup’s keyboards, bass and drums framing his guitar-led writing and improvisation. It is also a return to the room for Workman: his 2026 release LIVE AT ALVAS documented a previous performance here.
Born and raised in San Jose, Workman is a guitarist, composer, improviser and film scorer whose work moves through what Blue Canoe Records calls “progressive jazz rock fusion,” blending “cinatic textures, progressive improvisation, modern fusion, and expressive interplay.” His film credits include Superbad, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek. As a session guitarist, he has recorded with Sting, Todd Rundgren, Frank Black, Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, Norah Jones and Sarah McLachlan, while the label also notes work with Beck. Rohde has toured with Jane’s Addiction and the Dixie Chicks; Frank has toured with Shania Twain and Gwen Stefani; Travers has worked with Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson and Dweezil Zappa. Blue Canoe calls Workman’s guitar work “virtuosic,” and his live performances “adventurous” and “emotionally charged.”
Alvas Showroom offers a rare chance to experience live music in a setting designed for deep listening and connection. The room seats 99 people in a small amphitheater layout, with chairs angled toward a low stage surrounded by vintage stringed instruments hanging on the walls. Every seat provides an unobstructed view and pristine acoustics, so every note and lyric reaches you clearly. The venue emphasizes artistry, hosting jazz, world music, Americana, and guitar-centric performances that attract musicians who value attentive audiences. There is no food or drink service, but complimentary coffee, tea, and water are available, and you are welcome to bring your own refreshments.
