Rising Appalachia – Trade My Troubles Tour, Paper Wings
Lodge Room104 Avenue 56, Los Angeles 90042
Rising Appalachia bring their Trade My Troubles Tour to Lodge Room, with Paper Wings also on the bill. Built around sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith, the group performs with Duncan Wickel, David Brown and Biko Casini. The tour follows Trade My Troubles, a 16-song album framed by a traditional Irish Traveller song and an Appalachian fiddle tune, with songs on rest, burnout, motherhood, moonlight, heartbreak and birdsong.
Raised in Atlanta, Leah and Chloe began with family-rooted fiddle, banjo and harmony singing, then developed a roots sound spanning Southern folk traditions, New Orleans swamp culture and Atlanta street spirit. They are known for seamless harmonies, songcatching and storytelling, and have appeared at Red Rocks, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and NPR's Tiny Desk. Reviewers have called their songs “earnest” and “exuberant,” while praising the sisters’ “beautifully-crafted, soulful, close vocal harmonies.”
The Lodge Room offers a distinctive live music experience on the second floor of a building in Highland Park, where the room’s modest size brings the stage close to the audience, creating a direct connection with the performers. The venue features a bar but does not serve full meals, encouraging guests to focus on the music while enjoying drinks. Shows typically start in the evening, with doors opening around 7 pm and performances beginning an hour later, often including multiple sets or late-night shows. Seating is limited and generally first come first served, so arriving early can secure a good spot. The space’s walls and layout emphasize the music, making it a place to listen attentively while still allowing for a relaxed social vibe. This venue remains a lively part of the local music scene, hosting a range of artists and styles.
