Medium Build

Medium Build, The Scratch

The Bellwether333 S Boylston St, Los Angeles 90017

Medium Build is billed at The Bellwether with fellow billed performer The Scratch. Medium Build is the solo project of Nick Carpenter, and the available information notes that the project can appear with a band, though it does not specify the live lineup for this date. No further details about the evening or The Scratch’s music are available.

Carpenter hails from Alaska and is currently based in Nashville. He has described Medium Build as a place to put “all of my influences into this thing,” with UCLA Radio locating the music between indie-country and alternative styles. His emotionally candid songwriting built a following in Anchorage, and Melodic Magazine called a live performance “deeply honest” and “completely unafraid to feel everything out loud.” Medium Build has toured with Briston Maroney, Tyler Childers, Lewis Capaldi and FINNEAS. The project has also received co-signs from Elton John, Lizzy McAlpine and Remi Wolf, and appeared on Zane Lowe’s Artists to Watch 2024 list.

The Bellwether’s defining feature is a broad, 270-degree balcony that wraps around its main room, giving concertgoers a choice of floor or elevated viewing with a view toward the stage. The room has a wooden dance floor, a long bar along the back wall and a custom sound system; shows are general admission, with both the main floor and balcony included in a regular ticket. It is a ticketed live-music venue, and the lineup and door times vary by show. Before doors, you can get sourdough pizza, snacks or a drink at The Virginian, the in-house restaurant and lounge, which opens an hour before doors. The venue is just west of downtown Los Angeles, in Westlake, near the 110 freeway.
