Gilla Band bring their four-piece lineup to Lodge Room, with Annie-Claude Deschênes featured on the bill. The Dublin group arrives with Giraffe, its first new music in nearly four years, following the third album Most Normal. This is a chance to hear the band’s particular collision of guitar music, noise and rhythmic pressure in a live setting, with Deschênes joining the evening as the additional billed performer.
Gilla Band are Dara Kiely on vocals, Alan Duggan Borges on guitar, Daniel Fox on bass and Adam Faulkner on drums. For more than a decade, the quartet has worked at the edges of what can loosely be called rock, making an “idiosyncratic, ground-breaking hybrid” that critics have also situated among noise-rock, post-punk, industrial and techno. Their Most Normal was called “a masterpiece of panic and deconstruction” by Pitchfork. The Guardian has described the group’s sound as “glitching and juddering like a faulty signal,” while its account of a Gilla Band performance called it “genuinely dangerous, like one last rave before the apocalypse.” Their records have been described as a “kaleidoscopic spectrum of noise,” with broken pop songs and “futurist dancefloor nihilism” in the mix.
The Lodge Room offers a distinctive live music experience on the second floor of a building in Highland Park, where the room’s modest size brings the stage close to the audience, creating a direct connection with the performers. The venue features a bar but does not serve full meals, encouraging guests to focus on the music while enjoying drinks. Shows typically start in the evening, with doors opening around 7 pm and performances beginning an hour later, often including multiple sets or late-night shows. Seating is limited and generally first come first served, so arriving early can secure a good spot. The space’s walls and layout emphasize the music, making it a place to listen attentively while still allowing for a relaxed social vibe. This venue remains a lively part of the local music scene, hosting a range of artists and styles.
