In Fuzz we Trust Presents Blood on the Saddle November 14th
The Redwood Bar & Grill316 West 2nd Street, Los Angeles 90012
Blood on the Saddle headline a bill with Celebrity Telethon and Tenement Rats.
From Los Angeles’ early-1980s music scene, Blood on the Saddle fused “Bluegrass with the aggression of Punk Rock” and helped lay groundwork for alt-country. Their early bills included the Minutemen, Meat Puppets, Social Distortion, the Gun Club, the Blasters, Los Lobos, Lone Justice, the Knitters and Rank and File. Trouser Press heard “ragged harmonies, yodelled vocals and the slap of stand-up bass,” calling the effect “a rodeo where even the horses are doing speed.”
The Redwood’s pirate-ship interior gives its live-music nights a distinctive setting: ship’s wheels hang overhead, masts and nautical paintings line the room, and the stage sits at the back of a dark, wood-heavy bar. This Downtown Los Angeles tavern pairs shows with a working grill, so you can have pub food and a drink before the band; its menu includes burgers and fish and chips. Live bands are a regular draw, with rock and punk among the styles reported, and the evening is as much a bar night as a music outing. Expect a small performance area and a crowd gathered close to it, rather than a formal concert setup. Recent event listings show shows scheduled at the venue, though door charges and times vary by event, so check the listing for your night.
