NYE – Black Crystal Wolf Kids // Well Well Well

Black Crystal Wolf Kids lead Pappy & Harriet’s New Year’s Eve bill, with Well Well Well also on the program. The Los Angeles group calls itself the world’s first indie-rock tribute band, bringing a costumed, sing-along-encouraged set that ranges across current favorites including The Killers, MGMT and Billie Eilish, alongside earlier touchstones such as the Pixies, Talking Heads and the Cure. The band’s stated aim is participation rather than arms-folded observation, and the night is built for celebrating the turn of the year through that shared repertory.

Black Crystal Wolf Kids are an all-star Los Angeles lineup with roots in the now-defunct City Museum: frontman Jeff Miller, drummer Gregg Levinson and guitarist and singer Mark Pedante were members. Keyboardist and singer Valerie Taylor also plays with the Terpsichords and has toured with Charles Neville; bassist Marc Gasway is musical director at Downtown LA bar The Varnish. Their shows have included appearances by members of fun., Cage the Elephant and Lord Huron, plus frequent sit-ins from the indie scene. Explaining the project, Miller says he grew tired of watching audiences stand still at Eastside indie-rock shows: “The music is great, why not have fun and sing along to it?”
