The Jive Aces

The Cicada Club617 South Olive Street, Los Angeles 90014

The Jive Aces bring a six-piece swing and jive show to the Cicada Club, drawing on swing-era tunes, Rat Pack material, rhythm and blues classics and original songs. Expect songs associated with Louis Prima, Cab Calloway, Bobby Darin, Louis Armstrong, Big Joe Turner and Sammy Davis Jr., delivered with the band's high-energy stagecraft.

From East Grinstead, the group grew out of East London jive and jazz clubs and went on to reach the Britain's Got Talent semi-finals in 2012. Their lineup combines lead vocal and trumpet, trombone, reeds, piano, double bass and drums. The Stage called them “Simply sensational!”, while Jazz Journal wrote: “These guys know how to entertain.”

Stepping through the Lalique glass doors into the 1928 Oviatt Building reveals a two-story supper club designed around big-band dance nights. Beneath thirty-foot gold-leaf ceilings, diners sit at white-tablecloth tables arranged around a main wooden dance floor, while an upstairs mezzanine houses a dedicated cocktail bar with its own space to move. Patrons consistently treat the night as a formal occasion, dressing in vintage suits, ties, and evening gowns to match the 1920s setting. Evenings are ticketed in advance, pairing a full Italian dinner service or drinks at the bar with live swing orchestras and vocal ensembles, with doors opening early for dinner before the music begins.
