The UCLA Symphonic Band opens with a selection of band favorites, conducted by associate director of bands and director of athletic bands Justin McManus. The Wind Ensemble follows with Resonances, beginning with John Adams’s Short Ride in a Fast Machine in the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer’s 80th year. The program also includes Gala Flagello’s Love and Nature, Viet Cuong’s Second Nature for alto saxophone quartet and wind ensemble, and Michael Daugherty’s Bells for Stokowski, marking 50 years since the conductor’s death.

UCLA’s Wind Ensemble is the school’s premier wind band: a 50-member, audition-selected group of graduate and undergraduate students with flexible instrumentation. It is known for innovative programming and for fostering living composers. The Symphonic Band is UCLA’s traditional large concert band.

The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music offers a refined concert experience in its 135-seat Lani Hall Theater, designed with advanced acoustic treatments that ensure clear sound from every seat. The venue features a raised stage with adjustable acoustic panels, creating an environment where both performers and audience members can engage deeply with the music. Events here range from student recitals to performances by renowned artists, often free and open to the public, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis. The setting encourages attentive listening rather than casual socializing, making it ideal for those who appreciate the nuances of live music. Located within UCLA's Westwood campus, the school also hosts a variety of musical series and festivals that celebrate global traditions and contemporary works, promising an enriching evening of artistry and culture.
