June McDoom with Eliana Glass
The Echo1822 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles 90026
June McDoom and Eliana Glass share the bill at The Echo. Glass is a New York singer and pianist whose music has been described as “sparse and sparkling,” with a “distinctive voice, mellow, sinewy, and down to earth.”
McDoom is a New York-based artist raised in a Jamaican family in South Florida, making a blend of folk, dub and dreamlike indie music. Her work has been called a “dub-reggae-folk hybrid” and “spacey, elegant indie-folk”; her debut EP drew praise for layered vocals and folk-rock, reggae and Philly soul influences. She recorded her debut album Follow The Light with regular collaborator Evan Wright and has toured with Nick Hakim and Brittany Howard.
The Echo’s claim to fame is its track record as a launchpad for Los Angeles artists: its long-running Monday Night Music series helped early acts find an audience. Today it remains an active live-music club in Echo Park, in the upstairs room of a two-venue complex. The stage sits close to a compact general-admission floor, with a bar alongside; most events are standing, though seating may be available first come, first served, depending on the show. On-site food and drinks are available, and the venue recommends checking the individual listing for seating and age rules. Expect a ticketed gig with the crowd gathered around the performance, and room to step outside to the patio between sets. The venue is on Sunset Boulevard, amid Echo Park’s dining options.
