LATE SHOW - An Evening with Soulive
Live at The Sun Rose8430 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles 90069
Soulive returns to Los Angeles for the late show at Live at The Sun Rose. Billed as An Evening with Soulive, the November 20 engagement is one of two performances that night. No lineup is specified for this set, but the group is presented as the soul and groove trio.
Formed in Woodstock, New York, Soulive centers on guitarist Eric Krasno, drummer Alan Evans, and Hammond B-3 organist Neal Evans. Blue Note describes their sound as “danceable, organ-driven instrumental groove-jazz,” while NPR hears a “heady blend of old-school soul, funk, rock and traditional jazz.” Their work has included guests and collaborators John Scofield, Dave Matthews, Talib Kweli, Chaka Khan, Toussaint Yeshua and Karl Denson. DownBeat calls Soulive an “instrumental organ trio,” and their reputation rests especially on the live interplay: Popdose found them “unquestionably a tight band” with “a live band feel,” while AllMusic said a 2003 concert album captured much of the spark of a popular touring band.
Standing on the site of the former House of Blues along the Sunset Strip, the venue operates as a plush, 150-capacity listening lounge that puts audiences practically within arm's reach of the performers. Curated under the musical direction of Adam Blackstone, the space pairs pristine acoustics with low-lit velvet banquettes and cocktail tables, striking a balance between a serious listening room and a sophisticated night out. Advance ticket purchases are essential for entry: seating is divided between general standing room and reserved tables offering dedicated cocktail service, alongside dining options available on-site through the venue and hotel property. Late sets frequently draw surprise drop-ins from top-tier musicians, and patrons often linger for drinks after the performance.
