Last First Kiss brings its Americana, country and bluegrass duo to Bogart’s Coffee House in Seal Beach. Lead vocalist Sheryl Bard joins guitarist and backing vocalist Ed Solis for a set of country, bluegrass and Americana classics. Their approach draws on traditional songcraft but, as the listing puts it, brings “raw, modern energy” to material shaped by hard lessons, lasting love, back roads and front-porch harmonies. It is a two-person performance built around Bard’s voice and Solis’s guitar, with the duo framing the songs as a meeting point between inherited roots music and lived experience.
Bard comes from a family steeped in Ohio roots and gospel music. Her father, bluegrass musician Frank Bard, was known for preserving traditional bluegrass storytelling, while her grandmother played accordion with the Ohio gospel group The Glory Land Travelers. Solis is also the founder and bassist of The Rumrunners Southern Rock Experience, a band formed at Bogart’s that played Southern California venues including The Gaslamp and The Garden. His background also reaches into hardcore punk and crossover thrash: he co-founded Revolution Mother with skateboarder Mike Vallely, touring North America from 2005 to 2007, including dates supporting CKY. As a producer and performer, Solis has released 10 full-length albums with It’s Casual, Niños De La Tierra and Matador.
