Alborosie & Shengen Clan – Nine Mile Tour
The Regent Theater101 West 5th Street, Los Angeles 90013
Alborosie brings the Nine Mile Tour to The Regent Theater in Downtown Los Angeles with the Shengen Clan, his backing band. The billed show centers on the Italian-born, Jamaica-based reggae artist in his full live band setting, drawing on the work for which he is known as both a performer and producer. Songs associated with Alborosie include “Kingston Town” and “Herbalist.”
Born in Sicily as Alberto D’Ascola and now based in Jamaica, Alborosie works across roots reggae, dub, dancehall and raggamuffin. The Shengen Clan are the musicians who accompany him onstage, described by promoter Talowa Productions as “exceptional musicians.” His collaborations include Buju Banton, Kabaka Pyramid, Ky-Mani Marley, Collie Buddz and Protoje, and a 2020 project involved Christopher Martin, Etana, Romain Virgo and Morgan Heritage. Reviewing a 2014 performance, Reggaeville called the band’s impact “a tremendously powerful experience” and singled out Alborosie’s “rockstone deejay delivery,” while noting that some earlier shows had been “slick if lacking energy.” A 2026 Opus Musiques review praised his powerful voice, deep bass and clear backing vocals.
The Regent’s story as a 1914 movie house is still visible in its proscenium arch and surviving plasterwork, now framing a concert room with a sloping floor and second-floor mezzanine. Most shows are ticketed and standing-room only, though occasional seated events are marked as first come, first served; check your event listing for its format and door time, and buy ahead for popular dates, since some sell out. The room is set up for live music, with the mezzanine offering another view of the stage. Before the show, you can get wood-fired pizza and other bites at Prufrock Pizzeria inside the venue, or drinks at the attached Love Song bar. The Regent is on South Main Street in Downtown’s Bank District, a short walk from Pershing Square station.
