Liz Cole & Jeffrey Gimble - Together Again
Birds of a Feather Jazz Lounge710 W 1st St, Los Angeles 90012
Liz Cole and Jeffrey Gimble reunite for an evening of vocal jazz, swinging through the songbook while making room for lesser-known selections. The two singers are joined by musicians identified only as Smith, Sittner and Kay, with no instruments or full lineup specified. The program brings together standards, overlooked material and the pair’s shared hard-swinging approach; part of the event proceeds will go to a charity chosen by the presenters.
SoCal native Cole began on trumpet at nine before returning to music as a singer, building a Los Angeles presence around a classic, hard-swinging sound. Her 2025 debut, I Want to Be Happy, was praised for its “expansive range” and “delightful, wry sense of swing,” and she has performed with Joe La Barbera, Larry Koonse, Darek Oles, Otmaro Ruiz, Aarón Serfaty and Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band. Texas transplant Gimble grew up with his father Maynard’s big-band orchestra, spent 20 years acting in New York, then moved to Los Angeles to focus on jazz standards. His 2025 recording Brand New Key recasts songs from the 1960s and 1970s with a modern jazz sensibility; a reviewer called his voice “dark, richly emotional vocal molasses.”
