The Emmanuel Michael Group

The Emmanuel Michael Group is a New York City-based contemporary jazz ensemble led by guitarist and composer Emmanuel Michael. Drawing on Michael’s Ugandan and Southern Sudanese heritage and the communal rhythms of Acholi dance ensembles, the group combines guitar-led textures, open improvisation and searching harmonies. Michael has performed and recorded with Ambrose Akinmusire, Dayna Stephens, Marcus Gilmore and Immanuel Wilkins, and received The Jazz Gallery’s 2024 Residency Commission. The group has included drummers Jacob Patrone and Connor Parks, with bassists Felix Moseholm and Jayla Chee.
