Billy Childs
Billy Childs is a Los Angeles-born pianist and composer whose music brings together jazz, classical and popular influences. A prodigy who began performing at six and studied at USC from 16, he was discovered by Freddie Hubbard and went on to record and perform with J.J. Johnson, Joe Henderson, Wynton Marsalis, Jack DeJohnette and Dave Holland, as well as Yo-Yo Ma, Sting, Renée Fleming, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Kronos Quartet.
He leads a trio with bassist Matt Penman and drummer Ari Hoenig. All About Jazz calls Childs “one of the most critically acclaimed pianists in modern jazz,” while the Los Angeles Times praises his improvisation, swing, composing and arranging.
